What’s it about?
When a well-liked local girl named Rachel Holohan turns up dead in the river in the small Irish town of Ardnakelty, there are many theories. She is about to be engaged to a wealthy developer's son. What could have brought this about? But small towns hold their secrets, and Ardnakelty is no different. This is the third novel in a three-part series that features Cal Hooper, a retired Chicago cop learning to navigate small-town life in Ireland. But can Cal figure out this twisted mystery?
What did it make me think about?
Small towns.
Should I read it?
I think I have read every single book Tana French has written, and I have enjoyed them all. She writes great characters that make her mysteries exceptionally readable. This was a solid book, but not my favorite of her novels. It was almost 500 pages and felt a little slow in the middle for me. The last bit picks up, and her ability to create a setting and characters who seem so real makes her books worthwhile. Any fan of Tana French will find this worth the time.
A passage I marked
"Cal has always known that Lena's chosen weapons are barricades, not artillery, but he never thought she would use them against him."
