What’s it about?
Samira is a slave in the household of Amunet Khada- the Princess of Ashora. The story begins when their enemy, the Kaldfolk, attack the palace. Samira is in the room with Princess Amunet when they learn of the imminent threat. Samira is commanded to impersonate the princess, so Amunet can escape. Samira is immediately taken captive, but the enemy is not what they have always been described as.

Who is going to make it out of this story alive….
Should I read it?
This is going to please many fantasy readers. The story is basically the prince and the pauper with lots of fantasy/romance elements. The narrative alternates between Samira and Amunet’s stories. For me, Samira’s story was the much more captivating of the two. The unevenness of the two stories was a little bit of a downfall for me. This book is the first of a three-part series, and more than most trilogies, it felt like we were left hanging. But maybe that strategy will get lots of readers to pick up the second book?
