What’s it about?
Simone and Ethan are married authors that have had a varying level of success. While Simone is the bigger star Ethan has carved out a life as an author and lecturer that he finds satisfying. They are devoted to each other but each find themselves fantasizing about someone else at the university.
What did it make me think about?
Fidelity and power.
Should I read it?
This book is getting a lot of attention and I can see why. It is short, has some really interesting ideas, and some well-written passages. Simone was a complicated character that I never understood, but the hidden gem was the university setting and the power dynamics at play. As a whole I thought the story was kind of lacking - but it was quick read. Having said that- it was still an interesting story about monogamy and marriage, and I am sure a lot of book clubs will love all the ideas that it conjures up. It would be a very good discussion book. This book is still not going to make a favorites list from me- but if you are looking for something light and titillating then this one is for you.
A passage I marked
“Everyone has feelings for you. You like it that way.”
