The Lost Bookshop

★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8/10

What’s it about?

Magical realism abounds in the novel about a disappearing bookshop.  Opaline, Martha, and Henry tell their stories in three alternating narratives.  The magic bookshop helps them each find their way in the world.

What did it make me think about?

This sweet novel has a lot to say about the place of women in society.

Should I read it?

This was a fun book- full of love, magic, and some historical perspectives on women’s roles in society.  Interesting as well as entertaining.

A passage I marked

“I’m not going to blame my past, but we all have one and it follows us around like a prison, always keeping us from the person we truly wish to be.”
