What’s it about?

Noah meets Maya after his divorce. He is a quantum physicist, and she is an artist. Noah and Maya decide to build a life together, but Noah has lost a child, and this loss shapes him. When he is asked to join the Janus project and explore time travel he jumps at the opportunity. But will going back in time save his marriage to Maya- or put it in peril?

What did it make me think about?

Grief, love, and relationships.

Should I read it?

I found this description when looking up quantum physics- “ Entanglement: Two or more particles can be linked in such a way that their fates are intertwined, regardless of the distance separating them. Measuring one particle instantly influences the stature of the other, a phenomenon Einstein called ‘spooky action at a distance.” I felt like this story asked so many questions. Are we entangled with all those we had previous relationships with? Do these entanglements shape us? Are we always connected in some way to previous people in our lives? This book is not for everyone. I really enjoyed it though. The juxtaposition of art and physics was really interesting., The writing is quiet and beautiful at the same time. It moves slowly, but I was interested in Noah and Maya and did not find it hard to read. There are so many ideas in this book. So much to think about. Would you travel back in time?

A passage I marked

“ ‘That storm we just drove through?’ She said. ‘It’s not a thing. It’s a collection of things. Of forces and pressure drops and built-up condensation and rising heat. It’s a thing that is constantly happening and becoming. An accumulation of experiences.’ Noah looked at her, impatience in his frown. ‘And?’ ‘That’s what memory is like. Living things made up of your experience, plus my experience, plus Esther’s experience. All of it happening at once, the truth of it somewhere in the middle, the objective truth not even important at all.’ “
