What’s it about?

This novel is split into three distinct sections. Part one introduces us to Jordan, a college student in the 1980s. She is dating Sam but is secretly in love with his roommate, Yash. I will leave it at that....

Should I read it?

So you are either a lover of Lily King or you are not. I am unapologetically a Lily King fan! This is a love story- so if that does not appeal to you, stay away. This is also a heartwrenching book, so be aware there may be tears.... I really enjoyed this story. So glad Lily King keeps writing.

A passage I marked

" 'Isn't love a form of hope?' I said. 'No. Love is crushing. Love is something you let yourself feel at your own peril, despite your better sense.' She wore all black and bright red lipstick and I saw on her face how serious she was. After a few seconds she forced herself to soften it. She had the audience's attention. 'True. It's all those things,' I said. 'But where would we be if we didn't feel it?' I think it's the only form of hope we have. For our survival, I mean. What good is any other virtue without love?' "
