What’s it about?
This multigenerational novel intertwines two families. We meet the characters at the beginning of World War Two and continue with them for the next several decades.
What did it make me think about?
How very complicated life is.
Should I read it?
Well, I love a big, long, multigenerational novel. So this was my cup of tea. I am going to keep this review vague- as I knew nothing going into this novel, and I think I appreciated it more that way. Like all character-driven novels, it can take a little time to get into it. The more you know the characters, the more compelling the story becomes.
The sad thing about a good character-driven novel is that when you are done with the book, you no longer get to spend more time with these people you’ve grown to care about. I am going to miss Bonhomie, Ohio.
A passage I marked
“Do the dead visit us in our dreams? Or do we just conjure them up out of grief or some need and insert them into our subconscious? “
